Problem-solving is an essential skill for success after high school. Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) launched MathWorks Math Modeling (M3) Challenge in 2006. It’s an awesome (and free) contest that gives high school juniors and seniors the chance to build and show off their problem-solving skills. Students work in teams and, under time and resource constraints, tackle relevant real-world problems, like creating mathematical models to quantify whether college is worth the cost.
Problem-solving skills are so valuable that the challenge awards $100,000 per year.
